Your Treatment Plan

What to Expect: Your Calmare Treatment Plan

From your first 90-minute evaluation through a typical series of about 10 daily sessions and occasional maintenance visits, here is what your care looks like.

Initial consultation (90 minutes)

A space to be heard.

We start by listening. Dr. Max takes the time to understand your full history, from the strangest pains to subtle numbness or phantom sensations. You are not just a diagnosis; you are a person with a unique story.

The science of "why does it still hurt?"

We walk through the neuroscience of chronic pain in plain language: how your brain processes threatening signals, and how Scrambler Therapy retrains those pathways.

Safety and suitability.

We review your medical history together to make sure Calmare is the safest, most effective path for your specific condition.

Treatment starts on day one.

Your initial consultation includes a full, standard 42-minute Scrambler session. It is the first step of your intensive treatment plan, which typically continues daily (Monday through Friday) over the next 2 to 3 weeks.

The "responder" experience.

This first session helps us see how your nervous system interacts with the technology. Many patients notice a change, such as a spreading sensation or a reduction in pain, within the first few minutes of their very first visit.

Patience for deep-rooted pain.

Every nervous system is different. If you do not feel a dramatic shift on day one, stay encouraged. For many patients, especially those with complex or long-standing conditions, it can take 3 to 4 days of consistent treatment before the brain accepts the new signals and the reset takes hold.

A collaborative process.

Scrambler Therapy is something we do with you, not to you. We can use up to 5 pairs of electrodes to target multiple areas at once, and your real-time feedback is our most important tool. By describing how the buzzes and tingles feel, you act as the interpreter for Dr. Max, ensuring your nervous system hears the device's non-pain message as relief rather than a threat. You are the expert on your own body.

Initial treatment plan (length varies)

Standard plan:

typically 10 daily sessions on consecutive weekdays. Weekend appointments can be accommodated for patients traveling long distances.

When treatment ends:

treatment concludes when you experience sustained pain or numbness relief for a full 24 hours. If relief persists for 48 hours, the non-pain message has taken hold and may last 3 to 12 months before a top-up visit is needed.

Extended treatment:

certain severe or complex conditions, or patients who cannot discontinue anticonvulsant medications (under their doctor's supervision) 72 hours before starting, may require 15 or more sessions for optimal relief. Review the interfering medications list on the Your First Visit page before scheduling, and share it with your prescribing physician to plan safe, temporary alternatives during treatment.

Monitoring and adjustment:

throughout your plan we track decreased pain severity and shrinking of the affected area, adjust electrode placement for faster improvement, and may recommend exercises to enhance sensory integration as you adjust to your new normal.

Maintenance phase (1 to 2 visits every 3 to 12 months)

After your initial series, relief typically lasts 3 to 12 months. Most patients need occasional maintenance visits to keep their relief, though some experience permanent relief and never need to return. With each maintenance visit, the interval between visits often grows longer as your brain strengthens its hold on the non-pain message.

Wondering about cost and the guarantee? A standard series is about 10 sessions at a flat rate. See our Pricing and Guarantee page.
